MEET HOPE, OUR FIRST RESCUE HORSE!!
This pregnant mare was on her way to the slaughter house. Another Virginia rescue shares horses on the line to try to get their slaughter fees paid so they can be saved from the killpen. When no one stepped up to get her off the line, we knew we had to do something to save her and her baby.
We paid her hold over fee, in hopes that someone would pay her fee and give her a home. Still no one and her time was running out before she would be shipped out.
We shared with others and managed to pay her slaughter fee to bring her home.
She is due in 2026 and thankfully is in good health. We does require good quality feed to make sure both her and her baby are healthy. We have been using fly spray to try to give her relief from their bites and also some wound care products to make her comfortable.
She is 14 hands tall which is pony size and very sweet. She was scared but we have been slowly working with her so she feels relaxed. She did not like a lead on her or to be tied but she is so gentle that she lets small children, including a toddler and baby lead her around. Very mild and as you can see, very beautiful!
She was said to be a spooky house but we believe she might have spent most her life out in the field so being inside a barn and being tied were something new and maybe even scary to her. She does great now and didn't take much work to go in and out, wherever we want to go with her. She follows and is happy to be near.
We are currently putting up fencing and building her a birthing pen barn so she is staying with our Amish neighbors that are organic dairy farmers. They breed beautiful draft and carriage horses. She is staying in with the foals inside their barn.
You can help her by being her sponsor! She requires special feed beyond hay to make sure she is growing well during her pregnancy. Every dollar helps for her feed and care.
Sponsors will get special updates and bonus info on your sponsored horse!
